My interest in photography goes back as long as I remember but, like most people, I mainly took photos as a way to capture my experiences, particularly while travelling.  It was not until 2006 that I decided to try to turn my photography into a more professional hobby, and only in the last year that I have put dedicated time into developing skills by attending digital photography courses, experimenting with different lenses and fields of photography, reading books from professionals and, most importantly, having my camera next to me all the time!

I made my first steps with a Canon Digital Ixus after reading a book from National Geographic on digital photography which inspired and motivated me to learn more. Gradually I moved to a DSLR and was amazed with its capabilities. My first DSLR was an EOS 450, then an EOS 50, 7D and my current camera is an EOS 5D Mark II.

What I enjoy most is the creative aspects of photography and learning to ‘see’ things in a different way.  When I look at a scene or object, I try to see it not just with my eyes, but to imagine it through the lens of a camera and to try to visualise what the end result will be.  Of course this is something that requires a lot of development and experience and I am enjoying the process to learn to acquire this skill.

An associated area that I am developing further is knowledge of Photoshop and other relevant software that will help me in post-photo processing to get the best end result with my photos. I have completed the following training courses:

  • Photoshop CS4 New Features
  • Photoshop CS4 for Photographers: Camera Raw
  • Digital Photography Principles: The Raw Camera
  • Photoshop Lightroom 2 Essential Training
  • Photoshop CS3 Channels and Masks: The Essentials
  • Photoshop Cs3 One-on-One: The Essentials

I will be posting a link to my photography portfolio shortly…
